This must b the calculation methodology used by most retailers and that's why share price go sky even LOFC went up to 22. Very Happy
Regulators here is the point.
Just teach the retailers how to calculate share value. No need further rules and restrictions to control the market. Very Happy
It was not the manipulation. Very Happy

I have not considered the investments on Delmege and Orient Garment...Please make me correct if this value is not true.I think this share is having much value than we think(most of them saying 60-65 worth). Is it worth to sell a share having a more worth than we think? Your Valuable comments are expected.

Dear friend, I do not tell you are wrong or right, but I hope you would be a successful investor if you can read more about company valuations, specially the companies up for listing. I am not going to explain anything in detail as these things can be learnt by your self if you search in Google.

These valuation models are used to determine Ordinary Shares of a Company.

1. P/E Ratio method
2. Dividend Valuation Method
3. Net Assets Value method
There are some more methods and you will see them if you are eager to study.

I believe you are not going to take the controlling power of the company at this IPO, so all three methods can be used if you know the basics and variables needed to each method.

However, you need to consider other factors also and if you give more weight to other factors influencing share prices I hope you would reach your suggested answer, my prediction is well below that.

cmnet,
Read Hiru's reply at http://forum.srilankaequity.com/t6361-vone-1st-day-price-calculation#42744.

The method you have used is correct for valuing some types of assets (and therefore stocks) but is dead wrong for others. Unfortunately in the case of VONE, it's the latter.

The method you use is what is used to value indexed funds. Why does it work there? Because by definition, the fund is nothing more than a bunch of stocks put together. You are doing nothing more than to buy a piece of that. So the valuation of the fund is exactly the price of ths shares (well there would be some commissions and other fees applied, but you get the idea).

For a company, that mechanism does not work. Why? Because holding on to other shares would not be the only action it would do. In case of VONE, they are going to build a hotel. And the share prices of the companies it hold doesnt make a material difference because they wont be selling it out.

You can't value the share by using this mathematical calculation.

Actually if you want to calculate it mathematically consider the number of shares them.

But remember it never gives you a real valuation.

My friend, I am presuming you are doing this calculation as you are not aware of the correct methods and not for any other reason.

As VOL is listed under Diversified sector,

a) look at it current EPS
b) define a reasonable PE compared to sector and future growth

and calculate it value. You can also consider the NAV also and look at ROE, PEG ratio etc.

Above method is not the correct way.

Well in 15 years, if you buy any of the fundamentally sound but way overvalued stocks, at whatever price you buy today, they will appreciate considerably, unless the company goes bust.
But even big companies can go bust too. Borders books went bankrupt recently. I guess it was the second largest bookseller in USA.

I do not think VONE will be traded at issue price.Never.Today VONE price hike was not as expected. That is mainly due to selling pressure of some small share shareholders who bought shares around 52000-100000(I guess)in Dec 2010 at the time of private placement was took place. They are selling their stake to gain a small margin. Under IPO, VONE issued only around 21 mn shares and today 41.8 mn shares were traded. That is much more than the IPO issued quantity.According to my view within few days price would go up.

Wonders.. at CSE. Still ppl comment on prices of stocks...!
Some times such comments based on rational thinking, Strategical calculation.
Sometimes just guessing. But still highly unpredictable the price of a stock.
Even with very good positive sign which is in the records and reports and in official announcement, the price go down even though its theoretical value is already under valued. Already over valued share prices go up..
VONE may give short term gain , that is highly unpredictable.
VONE will give good return in long-term, that is high possibility.
Retailers must learn lessons and should concentrate more on investment than trading.
Anything U guys understood by the prices of LOFC and VONE.

Very Happy Very Happy

Now we can easily understand the CSE behaviour. Not fundamental. Not technical. Only Demand and Suply.Simple economics. Most successful HNWIs in SL did not analize everything in technicaly or fundamentaly. They considered only Demand and Suply. VONE too today proved that.
