SLTDA forecasts record tourist arrivals in 2024

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) expects tourist arrivals to exceed 2.3 million in 2024, generating a minimum revenue of $ 4.6 billion.
2024 were expected to exceed the previous all-time high of 2.3 million recorded in 2018.

Indian celebrities join calls to boycott Maldives’ tourism over anti-India barbs

Indian tourists were the highest among visitors to the Maldives till December 2023, data from the country’s tourism ministry showed. According to the Maldives tourism ministry, a total of 17, 57,939 tourists arrived in the island nation till December 13, an increase of 12.6 per cent compared to the 1.5 million arrivals recorded in 2022.

The largest number of tourists who visited the Maldives were from India (2,09,198), followed by Russia (2,09,146) and China (1,87,118).

As per a report, following a diplomatic dispute between India and the Maldives, it seems that a significant number of Indian tourists are now choosing Sri Lanka as their preferred destination.
In January 2024, Sri Lanka experienced a surge in tourist arrivals, surpassing the Maldives.
It also anticipates a further boost in tourist arrivals from India, Russia and Europe till the end of the winter season or the end of next month with more charter flight services and international airlines expanding their frequencies.
